Great post. I've been playing with mowser and with this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mowser-wordpress-mobile/ and with a 'm.' subdomain re-directing to the mowser version of the site, I've hopefully got a fully mobile friendly version of the my Church going!

mowser seems nicer than some wp-plugins as it outputs the site have you've got it. It doesn't put your recent posts on every page or force comments.

If you want to have a quick try of going mobile, see http://www.mobileshortcut.com

You'll get sub-domain name and structured mobile site. Useful things like mBooks,
mAlbum, and mDirectory are relevant for church mobile sites. Of course it's free so far.

some people arent fans of xhtml (http://www.b-list.org/weblog/2008/jun/18/html/) so just cause its a bit of a buzzword doesnt mean its the best hammer for this nail.

i have used some mobile CMS sites out there for the mobile version of church websites - eg: http://church.ubik.net/ or http://riversidechurch.wirenode.mobi/

just like wordpress.com they are free, hosted and template driven so anyone can build a mobile site.

keep up the good job!
