Send expensive software a-packin’ with Google Pack!

Your nuts – and worse, potentially a poor steward, IF your church is still spending money on security, anti-spam, word processing and other typical office-like applications. Then again, that’s better than being a pirate if you’re using such applications without paying for them – unless of course you’re taking advantage of Google Pack, a set of free applications that give you much if not all of the computing power you need to help operate an effective ministry in the 21st century.

In short, Google Pack is:

Google Earth

  • Find maps, driving directions, hotels, restaurants, and more
  • Show seekers how they can find you, tell people in need you’ll be right there.

Using the above tools in combination Google Apps, or at least gMail and Google Docs – and you’re all set to operate your church and/or charity as if you have a highly paid and well staffed IT department.

Google Pack: simply put – you’re nuts if you ignore this online offering.

  1. Good post Dean except I’m going to take you to task on one point and then not all of it :)

You said “…. poor steward, IF your church is still spending money on security,”

I agree that there are oodles of free or free to use software out there in terms of security but we need to be aware and possibly promote the fact that free for home use rarely equals free for Church office use.

Finally, I have yet to find a decent free software firewall for windows server – I know a few were in development but on my last check they had still not materialised. If you know of one then do let me know!
