Last week, I referenced an article by Mark Pilgrim on how to stop snooping bots. Part of it was to conserve bandwidth. Part of it was to stop mistakes such one reported in The Register where the Business Software Alliance (BSA) implicated “a major European university as a distribution hub for… OpenOffice. Oops.” In case you didn’t know, OpenOffice is an Open Source software that is freely distributed, and competes with MS Office.
An issue Glenn Reynold’s raised in an article back in October of last year entitled Stop, in the Name of ‘Bots.’ There the good Professor detailed similar accusations, including one by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) that identified a puny 1k file entitled “harry potter book report.rtf” as an illegal copy of the Harry Potter movie.
