The PHP Layers Menu 2.3.1

The PHP Layers Menu 2.3.1 (development) has been released under the GNU Lesser General Public License.

So what does this mean for you and your church web site?

  • It is a hierarchical dynamic menu system to rapidly choose among the items.
  • It achieves a compact view and a reasonably small file size for the page also with a very large number of entries.
  • An arbitrary number of vertical and horizontal menus can be used on the same page.
  • The menus behaviour is analogous to the Gnome, KDE, and MS Windows main menus.

Okay, that was from the developer’s web site. Here is what it means in English. Whenever possible, leverage your user’s existing knowledge base. The menus atop your software application is a good example. Using such menus SPARINGLY provides a familiar form of navigation for your users. I go on about this a bit more in Chapter 14 of That Book you should all have read by now.

The nice thing about this tool is that since it is written in PHP, it means you can drive your menu options with data. And that can be a very good thing.
