Treading on the Innocent

Dan Gillmor of the Mercury News makes an excellent point, and offers a very good and thoughtful contrast to my recent anti-spam ruminations in his article enttitled “Spam fighters shouldn’t tread on the innocent where he asserts:

“Wanting to see spammers put out of business, however, doesn’t mean I want to see innocent folks harmed in the process. But the vigilantes seem to be taking over the town — and the results are often unfair, sometimes grotesque.”

Bravo! And well said. As one considers various counter measures, one should keep Mr. Gillmor’s comments in mind. And if that’s not enough, consider this corroborating thought:

A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will perish. – Proverbs 19:9
